I had a question regarding my pet scan results. This is what is came back with. Symmetric increased activity in tonsils with suv max 9.2 . Tonsils are prominent. Chest came back with hypermetabolic soft tissue in the anterior mediastinum with slightly increased activity suv max of 2.9. Could indicate thymic hyperplasia but difficult to entirely exclude malignant anterior mediastinal tissue. Several small noncalcified pulmonary nodules. My doctor already went over this with me and is sending me for biopsies of lung nodules , tonsils, enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, and removal and biopsy of the thymus glaND and tissue attached.I also did a pft which I failed and came back with airway obstruction. I've been very sick shortness of breath, fevers everyday , lost 20 pounds 5'4 110 , have nausea everyday, sore throat everything you can think of I've experienced it. I'm only 19 years old and curious as to what this could be other than cancer and if someone has seen something like this? My doctors have checked for everything. I do a blood panel for auto immune every week and it always comes back normal. They have only said how rare something like this is .

Hi marissa10,

I am sorry to hear of everything that you are going through. At your age it would be extremely unlikely for this to be cancer, but I think your doctor is proceeding in an appropriate manner. The biopsies should be able to rule out cancer, and I hope that further workup will uncover the cause of your symptoms, as well as an appropriate treatment for them.
