Hi
I posted a few years ago with a concern about a tiny lesion that turned out to be benign and unchanged - whew!
so relieved. :)
I also mentioned my fears because my mom and dad both had lung cancers, my brother died from ARDS 2/1/14 and well, frankly, anything involving breathing scares me. {ETA: just confirmed with my sister- my mom's first lung cancer was diagnosed when she had a pneumonia one winter that would not go away. Neither of us know if she actually had pneumonia, or if it was "just' the cancer all along. My dad's lung cancer caused no symptoms, it was found on a routine xray}
I was just diagnosed with pneumonia in my left lung (xray was done) and given an antibiotic.I believe they called it "mild", which surprises me considering how awful I feel. After finishing the antibiotic, I have improved, which is a huge relief, of course!! I am still coughing a LOT and still have trouble breathing, but friends who have had pneumonia tell me this is normal (I myself have never had pneumonia before)
I had been sick since Feb11th, got the flu, then just as it seemed to be getting a tiny bit better, got hit with what felt like a second flu, and then just never got any better. Eventually I was having such a hard time breathing, that a friend insisted on taking me to Urgent care where they gave me a nebulizer treatment of some kind, took xrays and sent me home with an antibiotic (zithromax)
Some friends have asked when I will be having a follow up xray, but I was seen in urgent care (I do not currently have a PCP) and there was no mention of any follow up.
is this something that needs to be done? and if so, how long after treatment do you wait before having a second xray?
My initial response to the xray was relief, because to my thinking, anything that's big enough to be seen on an xray is highly unlikely to be cancer,
now, my well meaning friends have re activated my fears of lung cancer and got me wondering if I have any reason to be concerned.

Hi Catnapt,
Hi Catnapt,
I do remember you from your name. :) I've been catnapt many times throughout my life.
The genetic possibilities I'll leave as is from your post, http://cancergrace.org/topic/stupid-question-maybe-and-update and the links embedded there. There are genetic screening tests to find out if you are genetically predisposed to lung cancer.
We absolutely can't tell you to not be concerned. We don't know and can't tell from our forum discussions not to mention the legalities and ethics involved.
It's not uncommon to have a chest x ray or even a CT post pneumonia when there is reason to be concerned. A specialist in pulmonary care would be you best bet. Remember it can take the lungs weeks or months to return to normal.
I hope you are feeling better soon.
Janine

Thank you Janine for your
Thank you Janine for your response. Ah I had forgotten you can't give specific advice.
I am still coughing a lot but breathing is getting easier, so that has calmed my fears considerably. Anything truly serious is not going to improve, right? ;-)
I will get a copy of the radiology report, quite often there is a recommended follow up listed on those. If it says I need follow up care, I can take that with me wherever I end up going next.
sending good thoughts for your husband, I hope he continues to do well.
