Risk of infection period during Chemo cycles ? - 1262664

I am looking for info. on the risk of infection during chemo. The dr. told us the blood cell counts would be lowest at apprx. 10 - 14 days after the infusion, but then a nurse said that you have to be careful always, not just in that time period. No one told us how to proceed with regard to being around groups of people or going out in public -- if that is fine or not, for weeks 1, 2, 3 after the infusion date.

I don't believe people just stay in their house away from people the whole time they are going thru chemo, but I just don't know, so could anyone please advise.

The risk is not so great that it is necessary to stay in. We usually just tell people on chemo to avoid people who are ill, but it's not necessary nor desirable to have people shut in during months of chemotherapy.

Good luck.
