My husband has sclc. Has had 4 doses of cisplatin/etoposide, 3 doses of just cisplatin and 37 chest radiation treatments. Considered limited at time of diagnosis. Had a bad time with chemo and had to be hospitalized a few times. After a brain MRI which was conducted without contrast due to poor kidney function, a spot was found and had 10 wbr treatments. Now we wait for another MRI next month and CT scan. Hoping he will be well enough to use contrast. Would like the doctors to comment on scans without contrast and my concerns about progression.

I don't think the contrast is particularly critical. SCLC is rarely subtle, so it usually isn't necessary to use contrast to detect recurrence.
I have a patient with SCLC who also had a kidney removed for an early kidney cancer a few years ago, so we aren't using contrast for him either, and I don't think we're going to miss it.
Good luck.
