Hi,
I'm writing on behalf of a dear friend whose mother has been hospitalised in the south of France with stage IV non small-cell adenocarcinoma lung cancer, stage IV, metastasis to the bones and suspected metastasis to the brain. She was diagnosed in September 2014.
My friend is urgently seeking a specialist in her mom's condition in France for a second opinion. She could see someone locally in person in Marseille if there happened to be someone really good there, or otherwise seek a remote second opinion.
My friend lives in the US and although her mom has lived in France for some years, we're not sure where to begin looking. I would be so grateful for any advice.

Welcome to GRACE. I'm sorry to hear of the plight of your friend's mother. I would recommend that she seek a thoracic oncologist at a teaching hospital affiliated with a major medical school. I note that in Marseille there is the Aix-Marseille University Medical School; perhaps an inquiry there would provide information on thoracic oncologists who both conduct research and practice clinically. Such doctors tend to be on the cutting edge of the latest research and would be well-qualified to provide a second opinion.
Whether it's her current medical team or a second-opinion oncologist, she'll want to inquire about mutation testing, as some NSCLC patients have driver mutations for which targeted therapies have been developed. Also, there may be the possibility of using immunotherapies, which prove very successful for a subset of patients. Finally, there may be promising clinical trials which she could enter; you can search for trials at clinicaltrials.gov. A simple search for "NSCLC AND Marseille" produced 152 results, so there is a very active research community there.
