Hello,
I am from Mumbai, India. My Mom was recently diaganosed with Adenocarcinoma, originating from Lungs. The cancer has spread in Liver, Spinal cord, right shoulder, thyroid gland and adrenal gland.
My Oncologist has suggested 3 cycles of chemotherapy of 2 anticancer drugs.
Please let me know other alternatives/ best way treatment of Adenocarcinoma. You early reply will be highly appreciated.
Thanking you,
Kiran Singh

That suggested treatment sounds reasonable. If possible, checking the tumor tissue for EGFR and ALK biomarker would also be helpful.

Thank You for your prompt response.
When do you suggest to do EGFR and ALK bio marker test? before or after chemotherapy? Your views in this matter is eagerly awaited.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi Kiran,
I'm sorry about your Mom's diagnosis. If there is tissue available, it's not a bad idea to go ahead and have it tested now, so that if the current treatment proves ineffective, or if further treatment is needed in the future, her doctor will know whether a particular targeted therapy would be appropriate.
Hoping for good results from her chemotherapy,

In this setting, it is generally good to do the EGFR/ALK testing now, so that it can guide decisions in the future. The test results usually take 1-2 weeks to return. So for the time being, given the extensive areas of cancer you describe, it seems reasonable to proceed with chemotherapy for now.
Another item to consider is to ask your doctor about the possibility of radiation treatment to the cancer you describe near the spinal cord. Sometimes several doses of radiation can help prevent problems from happening there. It all depends upon context. Hope this helps clarify things.
