I wrote a post soliciting for people's interest in live meetings about specific topics in cancer, probably starting in lung cancer but very likely broadening into other cancers as well:

It may be that the answer is that people would simply rather have access to info online and by podcasts than actually go to a physical meeting and interact with people live, given the hassle of TSA and potential costs. However, as we consider embarking on a few live symposia geared toward patients and caregivers, we'd love to get some feedback from folks about the probability that we'd get more than a handful of people who show interest.
Thanks,

I quite enjoy the ability to join meetings online. That's not to say I wouldn't travel a couple of hours to Atlanta or Nashville to join a group meeting with Dr. Spigel or Dr. Ramalingam and like minded laypeople. There's an emotional component that is only fed through live, person to person contact. And as I write this I realize I quite miss it.
Since the point is to educate as many as possible the live meeting would need to have an online feed so a larger web audience could at least attend if not participate.
But as one person who doesn't have the resources to travel far and strings to home life that don't allow for more than a quick overnight trip I have to vote online webinars.
I wonder if a casual situation could be set up where the focus is the webinar but the venue allowed a few others, i.e., audience. I write this without knowing how many people have shown up for other events like this or the Breath Deep Seattle meeting. But it might give you an opportunity to fill out how many people would show up without needing to dig too dip into the coffers for a live event.

Maybe we could do some kind of hybrid where we have a live online event in which people converge at any of a number of different cities to participate simultaneously, like having 10-20 synchronized get-togethers around the country that could all connect to a live online activity... Just thinking out loud here.
