I cannot express how thankful I am for this site and the doctors here that share their knowledge, expertise, and comfort to people they do not even know. The wealth of information provided here not only creates a more educated patient, but also provides empowerment and hope in the face of terrible news and uncertainty.

Way back in Sept 2007 at the age of 59, my mom was staged 3A NSCLC, EGFR+, which quickly became stage IV. I want to share with you all that she lived a long 6+ years with lung cancer, and I hope that provides others hope. While on the AP26113 trial recently, her brain mets increased. She had localized rad to one area (she had already had WBR a few years back), and suffered a major stroke shortly after. Her body slowly began to shut down (my guess is from the effects of the stroke as her cancer was fairly controlled aside from some small brain mets and bone mets). She passed away very peacefully at home this October 28, 2013 with her entire family around her, each of us with a hand on her at the moments proceeding and up through her passing.

I want to thank the doctors and the entire community here for the support, knowledge, and hope shared with me across the years. God bless you all!

I'm so sorry to hear of year passing, but it's wonderful that she died peacefully and surrounded by her loving family.

Thank you for your extremely kind comments. It is remarkably gratifying to know that an online community can help provide information and support that is truly valuable when people need it.

Hope, I'm so sorry your mother has passed. I know what an awful time this is for you and family and hope all of you find peace and comfort in memories of her. She lives on in each of you.
