How many spots/sites can be radiated at one time ?

My mom has metastases in her right hip since May 2014, and now it has started being painful on and off. When it does come, it almost interferes with her walking, so I can only assume with more time it is going to get worse --and I know that radiation would be an option.

However, she also has cancer lumps externally (due to lung surgery seeding cells at incision site and now more lumps appearing) She has a lump on her rib directly down from her left armpit, and another lump on her front left rib below her breast and also one a few inches under her armpit. Can radiation be done to the hip and all these lumps at once ?

Generally speaking, radiation can target several troublesome areas in the same sessions. My wife had painful bone metastases in a number of locations, a few of which were radiated together without any ill effects.

Of course, an individual situation may have unique factors to take into account, so your mom's radiation oncologist would be best able to answer that question for her particular situation.
