My friend is 7 years out from her Kidney Transplant and has been on Cyclosporine all this time.
Last year she developed Ovarian Cancer staged 3C, in 2 lymph nodes, it had spread to uterus, colon (where a previous resection was) rectum, intestines.
Surgery successfully removed tumor but colostomy badly place, and many complications afterwards with wound open and infections, wound closed and cleared now
3 months after surgery, chemotherapy is suggested but no good solution
Platinum drugs (Taxol and abraxene) will take her kidney
Question: does anyone have recommendations for oncologist with Kidney Transplant Recipient patients in the NY/NJ/Philly area?
Does anyone have experience/knowledge of chemo drugs that process through the liver rather than renal?
Does anyone know of any trials using such drugs?
thank you, any information greatly appreciated

Hello and welcome to Grace. I'm very sorry about your friend but she's lucky to have you looking for help.

I don't know that anyone who can help because this is a very individualized case but most oncologists are versed in how chemo agents are processed. It's also important for a surgeon who understands how much punishment your friend's kidney can take. A large research hospital in the area is likely to have specialists in both areas who are accustom to working as a team to give best options for individual problems like this.

I hope this helps.
