Radiation Pnuemonitis - 1269082

I have Radiation Pnuemonitis. It was found on PET scan after chemo and radiation ended. I was put on prednisone by my radiation oncologist and after talking with my oncologist and pulmonologist I was put on higher doses of prednisone and antibiotics. My latest CT scan showed not much change either way. I am weaning down to 20 mg of prednisone per day. I wanted to know how long this may last. I understand it can be quite awhile?

Willy,

Welcome to Grace. It's not possible to say how long it with show up on scans, it can be days or it can remain. But if you don't have symptoms it's fine not to treat. Another important issue is whether or not you've had a thorough workup to exclude other possible reasons for symptoms. Here's a link to a post that explains these things. http://cancergrace.org/radiation/2008/08/11/pneumonitis/

Let us know if you have other questions.

All best,
Janine

Thank you for the reply Janine. I do have the symptoms of radiation pneumonitis. The prednisone and antibiotics seem to be alleviating them. I have had so many different work ups and seen this or that Dr that I feel like I live at the cancer center that I go to!:)

Thanks for the link.
