Hi. I'm wondering what the life expectancy is for people who have EGFR mutation, in stage 4 and are on Gilotrtip (sp). She has not started the drug yet due to Insurance bureaucracy, but should start this week. She is 49 and has never smoked. Very athletic most of her life and only recently has slowed down. She has diabetes and has a well controlled seizure disorder. I'm trying to understand what to prepare for and what to help her prepare for.

Hello heyjode2,

Welcome to GRACE. I am very sorry to hear of her diagnosis. It is good that she has an EGFR mutation, as there are established drugs targeting that cancer with that mutation, and much continuing research to combat acquired resistance to such drugs.

It is difficult to say what her life expectancy will be. A good percentage of patients respond well to EGFR inhibitors as well as later generation inhibitors. Some respond for many months or years. How she responds initially to Gilotrif will give a good indication of how sensitive her cancer is to such EGFR inhibitors.

Good luck as she begins treatment, and let us know if you have further questions.
