I had a pet scan done for a suspected lung nodule in April of 2015. The pet scan "lit up" which lead to a stage 1a adenocarinoma lung cancer diagnosis and a lobectomy in May of 2015. On the same pet scan the radiology report showed the following: A small focus of activity is seen along the lateral margin of the left ovary, SUV maximum 3.6. Not one of my doctors told me about this on my pet scan. I only read about it myself. I called to get an appointment with my gynocologist, but I can't get in for 2 more months. I've attempted to do research on-line about the SUV maximum of 3.6, with very little success. The SUV maximum for my lung nodule was 1.9 (which was aggressive cancer). My question is: Is the SUV maximum 3.6 for this thing on my ovary more conspicuous for cancer than the SUV maximum of 1.9 that was on my lung? Basically, does the higher the SUV max mean the higher probability for malignancy? Thank you for any help.

Hi sjohn, I'm sorry your have had to deal with all this. First let me saw congratulations! on finding a stage 1A nsclc and getting rid of it.
I'm a little confused about the comment about a 1.9 SUV signifying an aggressive nsclc. That's actually quite low and suggests a good possibility of something other than cancer. Though it's good no matter the cancer was found and removed. I'm sorry but we don't have a specialty in ovarian cancer. At any rate a call to your doctor who ordered the scan is an appropriate call to make to discuss the matter of next steps. However it's very possible ovaries would show up with an suv of 3.6 for the mere fact eggs are maturing and cells dividing or multiplying.
