Hi,
Im asking for my son in law who has stage 4A NSCLC Adenocarcinoma. He is having a very hard time getting his pain under control as the cancer has entered his pleural space. Drs are looking into an intrathecal pump and I wanted to ask if this pump could possibly exclude him from a clinical trail? It will administer pain medication only, not cancer treatment medication.
Original Dx May 2015, original tumor gone from radiations as used as second line. Cancer is now in Pleura and inoperable, has not spread to any other organs. Has received 2 rounds of chemo and 1 attempt at afatinib none of these worked. He is HER2 mutation positive.

Welcome to GRACE. I'm sorry to hear that your son's pain has been so difficult to control. I haven't seen the use of such a pump specifically listed as an exclusion for a clinical trial, but that might be something that would be decided on a trial-by-trial, or patient-by-patient manner.
If there are specific trials in which you might be interested, it might help to contract the trial coordinators of each to discuss whether this would be an exclusionary factor.
