Hello, i am from India and my uncle who is only 66 years old has been diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma lung. We are still not out of the shock. It feels like a curse has befallen us. Biopsy showed EGFR positive and doctor suggested to start tagrisso which is 1.5 lakhs Indian rupees a month (not affordable for a middle class Indian family). The second option he said was geftinib (only 5000 Indian rupees a month) but doctor said that it won't prevent metastasis to brain. I was searching desperately and found that tagrix and one other brand is being produced in neighbouring Bangladesh. I have few questions:
1) is there anyone who have used both tagrix and tagrisso? Can they confirm if the efficacy and safety is about the same or is it less for tagrix?
2) is there anyone using geftinib instead of tagrisso? What's been your experience? Is it worth trying?

Hi Caregiver and welcome to Grace. I'm sorry that you need to be here and hope we can help. Osimertinib has better efficacy than gefitinib (including OS and reaching the brain) and the side effects profile is better. Gefitinib can have more side effects than other egfr tkis.
Tagrix and tagrisso are both osimertinib made by different companies. I'm not going to repeat what's in this thread. Give it a read and if you have questions afterward please ask. And please if you find info that we don't have please come back and share it with the Grace community.
There is a private facebook community called EGFR Resisters that is connected with people worldwide. I believe they have actually taken pills from 2 different sources (I think tagrisso and tagrix) to be analyzed and found them to be the same. There is another company mentioned in the other thread that is cheaper than Beacon's tagrix. Resisters probably have more info on that. I would give egfr resisters a look before making any decisions about buying osimertinib.
And let me say that the cost of meds is out pacing what most people can afford. I'm so sorry your family is going through this and hope you find a good source from which you can get the meds your uncle needs.

I joined GRACE as a caregiver for my husband who had a Pancoast tumor, NSCLC stage III in 2009. He had curative chemo/rads then it was believed he had a recurrence in the spine/oligometastasis that was radiated. He's 10 years out from treatment.
