My mother has matastic pancreatic cancer which spread to the liver. She first was offered a regimen of Gemcitabine. After not responding to the treatment, she then entered a trial of using 5 fluorouracil and Leucovorin based regimen. After 4 months, her pancreatic cancer has stabilized but her liver cancer cells has since grown 28%. The doctors have now stopped this trial and is planning on putting her on the AUY922 trial.
We are all anxious as the side effect of this drug seem to be more so than her last regimen. Has anyone tried AUY922 for the situation my mother is in and what are some of the prognosis of this drug. Any comments or suggestions is very much appreciated.
Victor.

I'm really sorry to hear about your mother. I am sure one of the moderators will be along later and should be able to get input from a doctor with expertise in pancreatic cancer.
We did have a post by Dr Melissa Johnson about AUY922 for lung cancer (with erlotinib/Tarceva):

I believe that in some people AUY922 can cause eye problems. There was a GRACE member whose husband was on an early AUY922 trial and had to come off it because he was having what they call "visual disturbances" - it sounded really distressing:

However that must have been at least a year ago so perhaps the trial investigators have adjusted the dose to make it easier for people to tolerate. Best wishes.

I'm sorry to hear about her progression. I don't have any information about AUY922 specifically in pancreatic cancer, but certainly Dr. Johnson's summary can provide insight about the mechanism of action and tolerability of the agent.
Good luck.

Hi Victor, I wanted to let you know I corresponded with Dr. West who suggested there was little to add to your request. So, although the other doctor hasn't repsonded I didn't try to fiind another.
Please let us know if you have other questions. I surely hope for a better tomorrow for your mom.
