Infection can, as can inflammation, such as might occur with radiation pneumonitis, for instance. But the cancer itself can cause what we call a "tumor fever", though that's typically a diagnosis of exclusion, once we've eliminated other potential explanations as a more likely cause.
It's very common, if that is any consolation, although not very nice. I get them every time I have a chest infection - I wake up with damp pyjamas after taking anything to bring my temperature down.
Several GRACE members have also reported getting them during and after chemotherapy. For women, there can also be hormone disruptions to consider.
