Hi Joanne,
Hi Joanne,
That really depends on the type of the cancer, and in any event varies from patient to patient. You can read about this subject here: http://cancergrace.org/lung/2007/11/12/lung-nodule-doubling-time/

So when they tell someone
So when they tell someone with 2 mm nodule to come back in 9 months aren't they concerned that that person can return with stage 4 cancer?

There's a difference between
There's a difference between a nodule growing and the tumor metastasizing distantly to create stage 4 disease, although that time also varies from patient to patient. It's also true that smaller nodules (1-2mm) are less likely to represent cancer, as described by Dr. West here: http://cancergrace.org/lung/2007/11/10/risk-of-ca-among-spns/
That being said, there's nothing wrong with pressing your doctors for a shorter scan interval.
