Malignant cancer from "inactive" lung cancer nodule results ? - 1288664

I had intensive chemotherapy and radiation therapies 3 years ago for Stage III A lung cancer, no surgery. Complete remission occurred in August 2014. In Jan 2015, my subsequent 6 month CT scans revealed a small nodule 2.3, 2.5, 2.6 & 2.9 size growth pattern. However, all of my CT Scans said "inactive" for malignant cancer as well as my recent CT PET Scan said " inactive" a few weeks ago. Is there a high probability here of malignant cancer ?

Hi Lois,

Welcome to GRACE, and congratulations on your good response to treatment. The growth rate you describe is extremely slow, which would be quite rare for lung cancer. In addition, the recent CT PET apparently did not pick up significant metabolic activity, which is inconsistent with a cancerous nodule. Although your nodule will probably continued to be followed, it is likely that it is not cancer. The only certain test would be a biopsy, but in light of your scan results I can't imagine your doctor would recommend that at this point.
