Stage 4, NSCLC...Shortness of Breath - 1271416

My wife is 2 years into her battle with NSCLC. Her treatments have included:
1. chemo
2. lung resection...lower 2 lobes of right lung removed
3. radiation
4. several thoracenteses...very painful and not very effective.

Over the last few months, her shortness of breath has worsened considerably. We knew that her breathing would be impaired, but resection was almost 1 year ago. What might be going on?

Thanks very much.

Hi Pat,

I'm not a doctor but one possibility that we have just experienced is increased shortness of breath which is linked to an albumin deficiency and not the lung tumor itself. Something to inquire about. There are multiple other possibilities I'm sure.

Could be the fluid is building up again. When was her last scan? Is her doctor aware of this?
Take care, Judy

Hi Pat,

Hammer and Judy are right. Shortness of breath in lung cancer can have many reasons, since she's had pleural effusions that may be a leading cause. It's important to let the oncologist know about it so an effective treatment can be tried.

I hope your wife's symptoms are relieved soon.
