Hi All
New here. I have been over on Inspire and had some great advice on there but just a little worried today so thought I would join. I had a bronchoscopy and the Doc said that there were no cancers in chest etc but there was a tiny area of inflammation at the bottom of L lung which he thinks may be bronchitis but took a sample anyway to see what is what. I am googling which I know is bad and inflammation doesn't sound that good. Shall I be preparing for bad news with this? Mt CT and x rays were clear recently but obviously, this visual view is going to be accurate I would guess. Very worried. Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome to Grace.
Hi and welcome to Grace.
We don't have specific information about lung inflammation not linked to cancer or cancer treatment. Inflammation of the lungs is known as pneumonitis and is usually treatable and/or manageable. I don't know how information about cancer will help you understand what you may be up against but I assure you that a tiny area of inflammation is far from being as dangerous as lung cancer. So that's excellent news! You should learn more about your specific issue after the tissue is studied.
Mayo Clinic's website is an excellent reference. Below is a link to an overview of pneumonitis and contains links to Symptoms & causes, Diagnosis & treatment, Preparing for your appointment, and Self-management.

I hope you do well and feel better soon.

Hi mad123,
Hi mad123,
Welcome to GRACE. I'm sorry that this finding of inflammation has you so worried. However, with clear scans and only a "tiny" area of inflammation, it is more likely that it is not cancer, and I hope that's what the testing of the sample shows.
Even in the worst case scenario, a cancer that small would have a very high likelihood that it can be cured. Please let us know the result, along with any other questions you may have.

Thank you Jim and Janine
Thank you Jim and Janine
I got my info from Google and I guess that was rather silly. It read that inflammation could be cancer and that has been scared to the death and I was thinking okay so this is a type of cancer so how do they treat it. He did mention Bronchitis but Google sent me elsewhere. Thanks for your help. The first thing he said was the scan looks great. Then he went down and came back with the inflammation and no tumours seen.....don;t know if this helps me or not at this stage? could it be pleuaral effusion that is causing this or is that different again?

A pleural effusion would show
A pleural effusion would show up on a scan and is not similar to inflammation. Check out the link above for an explanation of pneumonitis.
All best,
