Hi guys, I am confused! Yesterday I posted a new post under what I thought was Head and Neck but can't find it. I found out yesterday my Oldest Son in his Late 40's has Tongue Cancer and is having the tumor removed next Thursday. At present it is localized to his Tongue they will remove the walnut sized tumor and replace it with muscle from some other part of his body. At present I don't know what stage he is or type of cancer. They told him it is curable. I know how helpful the Lung section has given me a lot of info and support so wanted to get info about his situation. I need to know what questions to ask. Can someone point me in the right direction? Lorrie

Lorrie,

I know nothing about that also I might make a guess they'd call that a "Head and Neck" cancer and that such cancers are very often a squamous cell carcinoma and often caused by either tobacco use or sometimes HPV virus (i.e., an oral version of the genital HPV infection).

I would imagine that the odds are good for a cancer that can be caught and surgically removed. I know a friend of the family who had surgery for throat cancer and it has not returned (5-10 years later so far).

Besides using a section of cancerGRACE.org that might fit that kind of cancer, I imagine that there is a forum that is more popular than all others for discussing head and neck cancers, but I don't know what it is. You can start by googling for it once you know the names involved, along with a word like forum or discussion, and see where most of the discussion activity seem to be happening (i.e., as many comments every day as possible).

Best hopes,

Craig

Hi Lorrie,

I can't seem to find your post, either. But for information on head and neck cancer, you may want to start here: http://cancergrace.org/hnscc/ Then if you have a specific question you can just post it as a new question. The general forum for head and neck can be found here: http://cancergrace.org/forum/head-neck-cancer/general-head-neck-cancer

Well I guess I will give up for now, I posted again on the head and neck and I can't find it like the first one! So I'll wait to see what questions I might have and cross that bridge when I get there! He's suppose to see the Dr. From the Clinic tomorrow. I spoke to my Xhusband and he said the Dr. At University was dragging his feet and was planning surgery for May sometime? Not sure what he was waiting on? Luckily my son's insurance wouldn't cover surgery at that hospital and was referred to Cleveland Clinic. They immediately scheduled his Surgery for this week! Now we just wait? Try to keep my head together and stay positive! Lorrie!

Thank You for your encouraging words Dr. West! I definitely appreciate what you said! Right now we will have to wait until after Surgery for any Questions! Lorrie!

He is Judy. I hope Lorrie doesn't feel she got left hanging. Lorrie, you've got so much going on. I understood Lorrie was going to gather more info from our head and neck site and her son's particular situation then come back with questions. If that's not correct let us know.
Lorrie you remain in my thoughts,
Janine

Hi all! I'm still here! I will be getting help from Head and Neck about my Son from now on, Dr. Geiger sent me some support and so far I haven't been able to ask to many questions. my Son Chris has been kept sedated since his surgery because he would get agitated every time they took him off the Meds. They have finally got his sugar under control and he was transferred to a step down room today. As far as his surgery everything is going as planned the only complication was his sugar. He is off anxiety Meds and pain Meds has a clearer head and I hope he's headed in the right direction. His youngest son came in to see him last night so I'm thinking that was a big boost for my son! Thanks for all your help! Lorrie don't worry I'll be back with more questions it seems I never run out of them! Lorrie
