FAQ: What might I expect to happen when someone I’m caring for is dying?

Article

This is a difficult topic for many people to think about, and especially to bring up in a public forum, but people still want and need to know what they might expect as they or someone they care for are declining. It is understandable to fear the unknown, and to fear suffering. I would say that there are a few leading points here:

1) Most patients don’t suffer much as their cancer progresses and as they transition through the dying process.

Large Cell Neuroendocrine Lung Cancer Stage IV

First post.

I was diagnosed with LCNEC Dec., 2018.  This diagnosis was made by Stanford.

i received 4 rounds of Carbo/Etroposide and. PET scan in April showed I was stable. Chemo was stiopped as my blood work continued to be low and was on a Chemo break.

Just had another PET scan that showed previous spots have grown and the cancer has spread.  It started with a tumor in my left lung, is in sone lymph nodes. More in the liver and on both ad real glands now.  Doctors was rather shocked to see it had become so aggressive.

Part 1: Lung Cancer Isn’t Your Fault, Even If You Smoked

Smoking is the most common cause of lung cancer; 85% of lung cancer patients have smoked at some point in their lives (or, stated another way, 15% of lung cancer patients have never smoked).  While quitting smoking certainly decreases the risk of getting lung cancer, more than half of lung cancer happens in people who have quit.

Reason #3 to not blame the lung cancer patient:

Tecentriq + Alimta Side Effects??

Hello! My mom got her first dose of Tecentriq & Alimta 3 weeks ago. She seems to have developed massive swelling in the right foot that’s moving up her leg (no clots per ultrasound).  She also has a burning sensation in her mouth.  Her next Alimta + Tecentriq infusion is on 7/4.  Would love some thoughts on what might be going on. Thank you so much!
