Need help with symptoms.... - 1271469

Forums

Hello,
I just want to start off by saying that I have not been diagnosed with anything. My uncle passed away in March of 2014 at age 50 from lung cancer and I’ve been terrified of lung cancer ever since. I turned 37 two months ago and I am a former smoker (20-35, roughly 15 pack years). Since June I have been having a variety of symptoms that have gotten me really stressed about the possibility of lung cancer.

Chemo/radiation or Opdivo or Keytruda - 1271461

Forums

My mother (63 and healthy) was diagnosed with 3a adenocarcinoma lung cancer 2/15. She received monthly chemo infusions (cisplatin and vinorelbine) in April and May 2015 due to lymph node involvement found during a mediastenoscopy. The oncologist said chemo was not very effective as her tumor shrank from 2.9cm to 2.6cm. She had a lobectomy July 2015 of her right lower lobe. Additional lymph nodes taken out during her lobectomy were positive for cancer and the surgeon also said that there were additional small tumors found.

Radiologist vs Oncologist - 1271459

Forums

Thanks so much for this forum to give we worriers a place to ask questions. So I'll jump right in:

In Feb. 2014 I had a partial LUL lobectomy and was dx'd with adenocarcinoma. Surgery 'cured' the cancer and no other treatment was required. I've been having regular follow-up CTs, on 4-6 month intervals. The last one, last week, mentions a previously seen 1.3 cm spiculated nodule in my RLL, that has not changed in size. However, the radiologist recommends a PET scan for further evaluation.

Father with advanced NSCLC suffering from extreme fatigue following Paracentesis - 1271446

Forums

Dear Grace community members,

My father was diagnosed with stage 3 NSCLC in Dec 2012. At the time of diagnosis, he had tumors in both lungs and in the lymph nodes.

He has taken almost 40 rounds of chemotherapy until a lack of response to the drugs and high toxicity occurred.

He started taking Opdivo in July 2015 and stopped it after 3 rounds due to Pneumonia in August 2015. He was hospitalized for 8 days but was able to overcome it and was discharged home. He has not taken any cancer drugs since (including opdivo).

Mammaprint and Oncotype - 1271427

Forums

First time poster. Im am I have seen many posts regarding oncotype and people wanting to have mamma print after an oncotype test. I am in the opposite situation. My oncologist and breast surgeon were in a disagreement about which test to utilize. My oncologist wanted the oncotype and my surgeon wanted the mamma print. Somehow the surgeon's opinion won out and my labs were sent to mamma print. My results came back with a low risk of recurrence; however I'm not entirely at ease.

EGFR mutation, Immunotherapy, and PD-1 expression - 1271421

Forums

I know there have been excitement regarding immunotherapy for lung cancer

1. Is Pd-1 expression requirement for the lung cancer immunotherapy? It seems to be a requirement for many clinical studies.

2. Have heard that immunotherapy does not work well for patients with EGFR mutation. Is the information correct?

3. Also have heard that patients with EGFR mutation tends to have low chance of having PD-1. Is that correct?

CAPTEM - 1271418

Forums

I just found an article on Cancer.net that indicated capecitabine combined with Temozolomide had shown promising results for neuroendocrine tumors as 2nd line treatment. Do any of your doctors know any more about this? I'm wondering if it's worth bringing up to my sister's doctor for her NSCLC IV neuroendocrine type. She is currently on Taxotere as 2nd line which may be failing after two rounds. --Hammer

Stage 4, NSCLC...Shortness of Breath - 1271416

Forums

My wife is 2 years into her battle with NSCLC. Her treatments have included:
1. chemo
2. lung resection...lower 2 lobes of right lung removed
3. radiation
4. several thoracenteses...very painful and not very effective.

Over the last few months, her shortness of breath has worsened considerably. We knew that her breathing would be impaired, but resection was almost 1 year ago. What might be going on?

Thanks very much.

SBRT or right to Inhibitor due to recurrence - 1271407

I have a recurrence of my stage IIIA lung cancer, adeno, ALK+ from 2012. I have a small paraspinal mass outside of the old radiation field that was biopsied and is definitely adeno ALK. I also have a non enlarged lymph node, station 5/6 which was in the radiation field with an SUV of 5 on the PET scan. Mass was 10.

I have two options and need to decide in the next day or two:
